Father Vincent Zidek, O.S.B.
While I was a student at Saint Vincent College,I had an inkling that God was calling me to the religious life.
I was impressed with the Monks who worked in the college as a professor, campus minister, librarian, dormitory moderator,
etc. Could God be calling me to do the same? I wondered. Periodically I would join the Monks in the Basilica for Prayer.
I liked what I saw. I graduated from Saint Vincent College in May of 1985 and I entered the novitiate in July. I have been
very fortunate. Thus far, I can honestly say that I have not really struggled.
The members of our Monastic Community have been my greatest source of strength. They are my friends, my confessors,
my co-workers, my mentors, etc. God has blessed my life as a Monk through the men with whom I pray, and work, and live.
Initially, I was assigned to the area of formation, working as Socius of Novices and Vocation Director. Most recently I
have been assigned in our pastoral apostolate, working first as Parochial Vicar of Saint Vincent Basilica Parish and now as
Pastor of Saint Benedict Church. I trust in God's guidance in my life. With God's grace I will do what is asked of me,
and I will do it to the best of my ability.
